Writings on the Wall and Funny Videos
Here’s where Mike Long writes stuff about other stuff. Records, movies, monks, public washrooms, etc. You may suggest (thelonger at gmail dot com) things and stuff to him for writing purposes. He will do whatever it takes to make you smile.
I never updated this thing! I feel so lazy. Anyway, 75% done my year of dancing.
I’m big in the Netherlands, and Sweden. Wait til I get my money. I will morph the two countries and rule in a very free and sexy place.

Back in the Hammer
I am busy ignoring school and watching many movies again. Lifestyles of the rich and famous should come knocking any day now. I will have tea and sandwiches ready. My new sandwich of choice is grilled tofu with vegan cheese, between slices of raisin bread toasted with zesty pesto on one side, and paprika paste on the other. Apple cinnamon tea or Licorice spice. Walking around this town is really fun, I swear.
Europe
It’s where I am in the world. I flew into London, hit up Brussels, Cologne, and now I’m in Berlin. There’s video proof of these adventures. I’m heading to Copenhagen this evening, and then to Sweden in a week’s time. Things have been going rather well so far, but continue to send me your digital love. Peace.

I consider myself to be something of a fan of thelonger’s contemporary dance installations on youtube but I find quite a discrepancy in my enjoyment of his two styles of recital-presentation. Performances in private locations I find tend to become a bit dull after about 30seconds or so and of limited entertainment value. However, dances in public - the masterworks series - and not just in public places, but with unwitting members of the public in attendance transcend the form to pure art. Very funny art. And isn’t the job of art to make us laugh? The answer of course is no, but still good job thelonger.

A wicked good article written by Karen Whaley about me here.
Times New Viking - “Present the Paisley Reich” LP

The same label that released Harry Pussy records came back years later to release a record by Times New Viking (Dig Yourself). Two years later, Times New Viking are assaulting lo-fi heads with a mandatory (”dude, you totally gotta hear this”) record purchase. Treble crushing cymbals and keys with guitar that somehow keeps everything in line as the bass players are supposed to do. This trio from Columbus-ted, Ohio have only three members though, no bass player. Just like The Doors, but louder and nothing resembling that band, sonics wise. Totally fun and raw, and pointing to obvious resemblances without irony or pretension. Just fun pop music that will fuel me for the summer. “Teenage Lust” is THE summer anthem, but “Let Your Hair Grow Long” and “Little Amps” rule too. Take note, awesome people.
Security Guards

Hi guys,
I know that we haven’t been pals in the past, but I just want you to know that I don’t hate you. I don’t even think about you until I get to a place where your services are required. I just want you to know that I have nothing against you as people, everyone needs a job after all, but you gotta lighten up. You do your job, I do mine (which doesn’t really “pay” like yours does). Regardless, it’s a job of some sort, and you will not stand in my way of completing said job.
We cool?
Word out.

Smiles
We all have our own perception of what reality is. There is no way for one to take one’s brain and switch with another person so that he or she may understand someone else’s point of view. It is for this reason that we must use language, in any form, to convey how we feel. I believe that laughter is the best way to put ourselves on the same (if not a similar) great plane(s). Making someone smile is a gift that I possess, and it is a gift that I absolutely do NOT take lightly. I make it my mission on a daily basis, regardless of mood, to bring people into my circle of joy. There is a lot of heartache and pain going around, and it is contagious. Our subconscious takes what we feed it and turns us into who we are, be it negative or positive. We all have the ability to be happy people, we just have to want it. Thought is powerful. I write all this at the risk of sounding like a bad self help book, but this statement is true: you are doing well if you believe that you are doing well. So, let’s have a laugh together, friends!
